This past June, Gatorama celebrated a true milestone — the 75th birthday of our legendary “Killer Croc,” Goliath! Hatched in 1950, Goliath’s life is a remarkable story of dominance, survival, and raw prehistoric power.
Goliath came to Gatorama in 1968 as a young adult. For the first 30 years, he lived in the front pond among older Crocodiles and Alligators, where he quickly began to establish his dominance. Over time, his strength and territorial instincts made him the first in this unique croc colony — the only such colony in the U.S. — to claim the title of Alpha Male.
In his rise to dominance, Goliath challenged and defeated any rival that stood in his way. His reign was fierce — and for the good of the species and the safety of the colony, it was eventually decided he would move to a pool of his own. There, Goliath has lived ever since, continuing to awe generations of visitors with his sheer size, power, and presence.
To this day, no other crocodile has matched Goliath’s legacy as an apex predator. His reign earned him the name “Killer Croc,” making him Gatorama’s deadliest — and most legendary — animal on record.
Though his 75th birthday celebration has come and gone, Gatorama continues to honor Goliath’s extraordinary life and the mark he’s made in our history. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime animal — our living legend, Goliath.
