MEET THE BABIES
The babies are hatching and what better place to watch them grow up than in our Baby Gator Pod. They may be small, but they are ready for action right out of the shell. While they grow their teeth and practice their posturing, we invite you to help us welcome them into the world. While you’re there, take a look at some of their names (located on the wall) and see if you can guess which one is called “Alli”.
When a baby alligator hatches it measures about 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 centimeters). Newly hatched alligators live in small groups, called “pods.” In the wild, approximately 80 percent of young alligators fall victim to predators such as birds, raccoons, bobcats, otters, snakes, large bass and larger alligators.
